🏰 Fortz: Asymmetric Base Warfare

Fortz is a unique hybrid of a platformer, a shooter, and a tower defense game, designed specifically for local 1v1 multiplayer. Players are dropped on opposite sides of a destructible terrain map. The objective is to destroy the opponent's base (or commander), but the twist lies in the dual toolset: you have guns to destroy, but you also have blocks to build.

This duality creates a deep tactical meta known as "Turtling vs. Rushing." Should you spend the first 30 seconds building a thick bunker to block incoming fire? Or should you immediately climb the high ground to set up an aggressive turret angle? The limited resources (ammo and building blocks) force constant decision-making.

📐 Turret Geometry & Map Control

The game features a distinctive combat mechanic: Stationary Turrets. Unlike your character's handheld weapon, the turrets on the map are powerful but fixed. Players must race to capture these control points.

  • Angle of Incidence: Turrets aim based on manual rotation. You must calculate the projectile arc to hit an enemy hiding behind a wall.
  • Terrain Deformation: The map is fully destructible. If an opponent is hiding behind a floating island, you can shoot the ground beneath it, causing the island (and the opponent) to fall to their doom. This introduces physics-based puzzle solving into combat.
  • Resource Crates: Ammo and blocks drop from the sky. Controlling the center of the map—where drops usually occur—grants a logistical advantage, leading to a "Snowball Effect."

🧠 The Mind Game

Since both players share the same screen, there is no fog of war. You can see exactly what your opponent is building. The strategy involves feints—pretending to build a bridge to the top, only to drop down and tunnel underneath their base. It is high-speed chess with shotguns.

❓ FAQ

How do I get more blocks?

Wait for crates to fall from the sky. They contain random supplies: weapons, ammo, or building blocks.

Can I play single player?

There is a single-player campaign against AI, but the game is optimized for the chaos of human-vs-human logic.
